Q : How Kanya Puja is performed?
Kanja Puja, also referred as Kanjak or Kumari Puja is performed during the Navratas. It is done with small yet symbolic rituals. On this occasion, a total of nine girls aged between 2 to 10 years are invited at a place. All these girls are considered to represent the nine forms of Maa Durga, which are named as:
- Kali
- Durga
- Kumarika
- Chandika
- Kalyani
- Trimurti
- Shanbhavi
- Rohini
- Subhadra
During the puja, each girl is treatment as a goddess. Their feet are washed with pure water and kumkum is placed on their forhead. After then, they are served with tasty meal, which comprises of Puri Chana and Halwa. After they are done with their food, devotes touch their feet to take blessings from them. There is also a ritual of giving clothes and some gifts to them when they proceed for their home.
